How To Get Makeup Out Of Carpet Stains

by | Makeup

How to get makeup out of carpet requires some work, but it’s possible to do if you follow some basic steps. First of all, make sure the makeup is not being absorbed into the carpet fibers. If it is, this is much more difficult to get out and you will have to strip away the entire area of the padding, which is your carpet’s backing. If it’s not being absorbed, then make sure to vacuum under the carpet. This is where most of it will end up anyway.

  • If you see any excess powder on the surface of the carpet, gently scoop it up with a paper towel or cloth.
  • For each particular makeup stain, a certain solution that you can mix when handling how to get makeup out of carpet stains is: liquid eyeliner, lip gloss, or liquid lipstick.
  • Using a sponge or cotton ball to blot it out is not a good idea as it will just leave the foundation on and start bleeding once you spread it to other parts of the area.
  • Blot it out with a paper towel first, then repeat with the rest of the areas.

If the area where the makeup is has been bleached, you will need to soak it in a solution of one part hydrogen peroxide to three parts warm water. Once it’s soaked, wring it dry. Next, dab a clean cloth over the area of stain to lift the makeup from it. Repeat with the rest of the stains. If the stain appears to have dried up and is no longer lifting, you may want to try a spot test with hydrogen peroxide on a small test area of the carpet to see if it keeps the makeup from coming back later.

For stubborn stains that you can’t seem to lift, you may need to try a combination of both hydrogen peroxide and a stronger cleaner. You can make a homemade solution consisting of equal parts hydrogen peroxide and lemon juice; add some Bobby pins to help the foundation stick better. Leave the solution on the area overnight and lift it out in the morning with a clean cloth. If you don’t like the smell of lemon, try using Bobby pins to gently pull the scent away.

With stubborn makeup stains, there are two ways to approach the job. The first is to tackle the problem by hand. Using a stiff brush, rub the stained area and press the foundation into it until it is absorbed. If the foundation doesn’t stick well, add a little water or milk and make another application.

Another option is to use a carpet cleaning product that has baking soda and vinegar in it. Mix the two together and apply to the affected area with a clean cloth. Once it has soaked in the baking soda and vinegar solution, scrub vigorously with a soft bristled brush until the area is clean and makeup-free. To get the stain out more thoroughly, add a cup of water and let the solution sit for about fifteen minutes.
